The existing 18-acre workshops site on St Georges Road, Preston was transformed in a $190 million project to provide stabling, operational and maintenance facilities. The new Preston Depot has the best available facilities to support the ongoing introduction of the E-Class trams and comprehensive tram maintenance programs that ensure a reliable service for the 180 million passengers who use trams each year. The contract included reconfiguring the heavy maintenance facilities, creating a new tram servicing area, new sanding facilities, extending storage buildings, as well as installing a tram wash and an automatic wheel measuring facility. ODM Electrical Contractors were contracted for the electrical works upgrade at the Yarra Trams Preston Depot. The project was spilt into stages of which ODM Electrical Contractors completed five of on behalf of Coleman Rail. This project involved the decommissioning of old power and lighting in heavy maintenance workshops and office spaces while Yarra Trams continued their operations on a daily bases. ODM Electrical Contractors completed the fit out of administration buildings, heavy maintenance work shop facilities, warehousing storage facilities and outside lighting. ODM Electrical Contractors were also responsible for the Hazardous Area wiring and certification of the new tram spray booth installed at the Depot.
